I study Latino/a/x political organizations with an emphasis on Mexican American Politics. My current research is on nonprofit organizations and political advocacy.

Topics
- I conduct research on the construction of identity in political organizations.
- I am interested in the way that Latinx political interests are articulated in the public sphere.
- I am interested in the way that Latinx organizers engage social institutions like government, political parties and economic institutions.
Achievements
- I have written five books on Mexican American political organizing. The topics range from grassroots mobilization to electing officials to public office.
- My most recent book The Politics of Patronage: Lawyers, Philanthropy and the Mexican American Defense and Educational Fund is my most recent book.
- My book on MALDEF won the Best Book Award from the Latino Caucus of the American Political Science Association in 2022.
