Metabolic engineering. My group genetically engineers microorganisms including bacteria, yeast, cyanobacteria to produce fuels, chemicals, natural products, proteins and pharmaceuticals.
Synthetic Biology. My group designs biological molecules including DNA and proteins to perform advanced non-natural functions in cells or outside cells.
Applied Microbiology. My group cultures microorganisms for varied purposes from beer fermentation, protein production, and waste remediation.
